Wedding Invitation Guide - Issue #6
WEDDING ANNOUNCEMENT OR MARRIAGE ANNOUNCEMENT

Welcome to Issue 6 of my Wedding Invitation Guide.

A wedding announcement or marriage announcement provides the perfect way to proclaim your happy news to those who weren't invited to your wedding. They can match your wedding invitations as far as the paper, font and ink color but are worded with the wedding having already taken place since they will be mailed the same day or immediately after your wedding. A wedding announcement definitely should not be received by the recipients until after the wedding takes place. If everyone you want to tell about your nuptials is at the wedding, there's no need to send marriage announcements.

Some people view a wedding announcement as a gift solicitation, but that's not the case. Think of a wedding announcement as being similar to a newspaper announcement but directed at specific people. If anyone does send a gift, be sure to send them a thank you card right away.

Some reasons for sending a wedding announcement are:

  1. To inform business colleagues of your name change due to your marriage.
  2. If you are having a small, private wedding.
  3. If parents hosted the wedding but all of their friends and colleagues were not invited.
  4. To inform faraway friends and relatives.
  5. You eloped. In this case your announcement could also invite guests to a post-wedding reception along with announcing your recent marriage. Our casual wedding invitation styles might be appropriate for a post-wedding reception. We even have a cute elope-themed style.

Parents can announce the marriage (especially if they hosted the wedding and their names were on the wedding invitations) or you, the couple, can do the honors.
